Cody Longshore Carnivale Restaurant Accounts Payable

I am new to M3 and have a simple question about when to change the Accounting Period Date.

Today is September 1st and I am entering in invoices from August.  Do I change the accounting period date to what the invoices reflect? 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
